World Oceans Day celebrated with month-long photographic exhibition

A PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition at coastal sites will be held throughout this month to celebrate World Oceans Day.

The initiative is run in partnership with the law firm Mourant by Ocean Culture Life, a group of storytellers, photographers, filmmakers, conservationists and ocean lovers who promote awareness of the ‘environment. The two organizations are also hosting a daytime event on Saturday at Nude Food Beach in St Aubin.

A morning yoga class will be offered starting at 8:30 a.m. for one hour, followed by breakfast at Nude Food and a talk by OCL co-founder Tamsin Raine. Starting at 11:30 a.m. there will be an ocean art exhibit, live music, arts and crafts, and an ocean-themed sustainable food menu at the restaurant.

World Oceans Day, which takes place on June 8 each year, aims to raise awareness of the state of the world’s seas.

The exhibition will feature various stories from the sea, with images displayed in the following five locations throughout the month: Sands in St Ouen’s Bay, St Aubin’s promenade, Havre des Pas, Gorey’s promenade and Bouley Bay.

Matt Porteous, photographer and co-founder of OCL, said: “Ocean Culture Life is a community that was born here in Jersey and has grown beyond our shores, tapping into a global network of culture lovers. ocean, storytellers and guardians. We’ve built a platform where creators can find and tell stories that intuitively appeal to them. »

Daniel Birtwistle, Managing Partner at Mourant Jersey, added: “As part of our company’s focus on environmental sustainability, we recognize the critical role the ocean plays in our lives and the importance of protecting it. That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with the Ocean Culture Life team to celebrate the shared ocean of our world and showcase, through a stunning outdoor photography exhibition, the work of those who dedicated to the protection and preservation of our ocean.
