The Chandigarh Press Club photography exhibition at the Sector 17 underpass is coming to an end
The Chandigarh Press Club’s 16-day exhibition, Newscapes 7, which was held at the underpass connecting sectors 16 and 17 ended on Thursday evening. An annual event, the event is held in memory of eminent photojournalist Yog Joy. 51 photojournalists presented their work this year.
New public toilet block set up at Shastri market
A new block of public toilets near Shastri market, sector 22, was inaugurated on Thursday. The public toilets were renovated under the Chandigarh Smart City Limited project at a cost of ₹20,000,000. The newly built block has separate provisions for people with disabilities as well as for men, women and transgender people.
The toilets carry QR codes so that people can share their comments on the availability of electricity, water supply, toilet cleanliness and toilet seat while using the facility. The public toilets were renovated under a Smart City Limited program at a cost of ₹20,000,000.
Mauli Jagran man detained with banned injections
Police arrested Radhey Sham, 24, of Mauli Jagran on Wednesday for possession of 48 vials of promethazine hydrochloride and pentazocine injections near Railway Colony, Mauli Jagran. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) has been registered
Workshop on personality development
The Zoology Department of Panjab University (PU), in collaboration with the Central Placement Cell, organized a workshop on personality development and communication skills for its students. Former IAS officer and motivational speaker Vivek Atray spoke about the importance of good writing skills with a focus on idiomatic errors.
Man arrested for stealing Sector 42 stadium’s iron gate
On Wednesday, police arrested a 30-year-old man for stealing the iron gate from the perimeter wall of the Sector 42 hockey stadium. The accused Krishna, a resident of Sector 56, was caught in the act by staff of the stadium as he tried to remove the gate, following which the police were notified. A case under sections 379 (theft), 411 (dishonest receipt of stolen goods) and 511 (attempt to commit offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Sector 36 Police Station. In another incident, an unidentified person stole four AC Copper Pipes from the back of the GK International Hotel in Sector 35 on March 17. A case under section 379 (theft) of the IPC has been registered at the police station in Sector 36 following a complaint.
PGGC organizes an annual athletics meeting
The Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, hosted its 39th Annual Athletics Meet on Thursday, which saw active participation by students in activities including the 5,000 and 10,000 meter run, high jump, long jump, javelin and discus throw, shot put.
