Wednesday, February 9 Fostering Responsibility and Self-Reliance: The Importance of Positive Communication at Home, School, and in the Social Realm (in person), 10 a.m. to noon. Join us in the Brubeck Room for an in-person session with school psychologist David P Sylvestro. Although the Detroit automakers have made “planned obsolescence” a dirty word, it’s normal to think of obsolescence as an important part of parenthood. After all, as parents, we want to do a pretty good job of guiding, shaping, and preparing our children so they don’t need us anymore! Keeping in mind our children’s eventual independence allows us to provide them with reasonable parameters, help them set goals and title the responsibilities they can take on. A key part of this process is building our own positive communication skills – how we encourage and reinforce our children’s development in these vital areas.
