Photography and art exhibition kicks off on International Tourism Day
ISLAMABAD – No less than 322 photographs and around 100 paintings were submitted by established and amateur photographers and painters across the country in the photography and painting competition which was presented to the Pakistan National Arts Council (PNCA) on Monday. ).
The contest was organized by Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) to celebrate International Tourism Day-2022.
The competition themes included Pakistan’s tourist attractions, landscapes, culture and life, adventure sports and flora and fauna. While the painting competition was in two age categories, including youth and children’s competitions. The final paintings and photographs were displayed to encourage the talent of the participants while the Prime Minister’s adviser, Awn Chaudry, opened the show and called the works a great effort by young aspiring artists to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of tourism. , environmental issues and the promotion of sustainable and responsible tourism.
PTDC Managing Director Aftab ur Rehman Rana said on the occasion that the aim of the competition is to engage young people in healthy side-by-side activities, educate them on tourism-related activities and celebrate the World Tourism Day.
World Tourism Day was designated by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in September 1979, with commemoration to begin in 1980. This date was chosen to coincide with a milestone in world tourism: the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes on September 27, 1970. This year’s theme is “Rethinking Tourism”.
The exhibition was followed by a two-day national conference during which experts and representatives of provincial, federal governments and relevant ministries discussed topics such as removing bottlenecks to promote foreign tourism. in Pakistan, the recovery of tourism after widespread floods and rains, the problems and challenges of mountaineering and trekking tourism in Pakistan, development and promotion of tourism in the capital territory of Islamabad, Initiatives of provincial departments tourism for the development and promotion of tourism.
