Emirates News Agency – Korean Cultural Center presents ‘Arirang Narsha’ photography exhibition at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 25th May, 2022 (WAM) — The Korean Cultural Center in the UAE has organized a photography exhibition titled “Arirang Narsha” in collaboration with Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi. The free-entry exhibition will showcase the beauty of Korean traditional dance created by a unique interpretation by Korean artist Yang Jaemoon.

The opening reception took place on May 25 at Manarat Al Saadiyat and was attended by a number of distinguished guests, including Lee Seok-gu, Korean Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates; Amel Al Mheiri, head of visual arts and design at the Ministry of Culture and Youth; Fatima Yousef Al Yousef, Acting Head of Section Manarat Al Saadiyat, Cultural Sites Management Department at Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi); Manuel Rebate, director of the Louvre Abu Dhabi; Xhabir Hamiti, Ambassador of Kosovo to the United Arab Emirates; Nguyen Manh Tuan, Ambassador of Vietnam to the United Arab Emirates; and Lody Embrechts, Ambassador of the Netherlands to the United Arab Emirates.

Around 22 photographs are exhibited, and Jaemoon’s works are inspired by traditional dances from the Quran, including Jinju Gyobang Gutgeori (four-beat structure with three subdivisions), Geommu (a sword dance), Cheoyongmu (Cheoyong Dance) and a Nongak (Samulnori, five-man dance).

The collection of works of art presents all of the artist’s activities from the beginning of the work until the latest. His works have gone from photographs of solo dancers who showed softness and elegance to group dancers who showed strength and dynamism.

Yang Jaemoon said, “I was fascinated by the emotional persistence of the dancers’ full skirts and began to capture the fleeting sequences in photography in a linear fashion. Therefore, my work captures the trailing images created by the movement of the dancers. , attempting to abstract the continuity of evanescent moments.”

Nam Chanwoo, Director of KCC, commented, “I hope the original form of Korean culture will be conveyed to the public in the UAE through the photographs showing the moments and movements of Korean traditional dancers. You can feel that you are actually watching a great performance by Arirang through the exhibition.”

The public can see Arirang Narsha from May 25 to June 19 at Manarat Al Sadiyaat, and the exhibition will continue at the Korean Cultural Center at Yas Creative Hub from June 22 to July 24.
